Education

Electric Opera Company’s mission directly places importance on our education program.  Using electric instruments as our sonic medium, it is EOC’s goal to provide youth with the tools and exposure necessary to appreciate opera and classical music. Every kid has heard the opening of Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, but a rare few know it was written over 200 years ago by Mozart. Being bombarded by booming bass in hip-hop beats and piercing leads in rock music, our youth surely have the tools to rock out and dance to modern music. We hope to marry this rock attitude with a spark of interest in opera and demonstrate that classical music is really quite an exciting genre. Our growing education department exposes many through performance and works directly with students in electric guitar classes. Currently, EOC works directly with schools as well as organizations including Ethos Music Center and Sound Roots to offer Educational Performances at assemblies as well as Electric Guitar Ensemble Classes.

Educational Performances
We offer an hour long educational performance featuring many electrified classical favorites and interactive activities. Educational Performances are a fun and exciting way to plant a seed of interest and break down barriers to classical music. Youth will engage in active listening, learn to conduct (and conduct our orchestra), experiment with digital effects, learn the basics of operatic singing, and rock out! While watching a group that appears to be a rock band they’ll be familiarized with many classical composers, operatic melodies, the realize classical music doesn’t need to be boring. We have offered these performances at school assemblies and summer camps, but are not limited to these venues.

We want to play at your school! For booking educational performances, contact Adam Goodwin, Director of Education, at adamgoodwin2@gmail.com or (425) 736-8571.

Electric Guitar Ensemble Classes
EOC offers electric guitar classes from beginner to advanced levels using a classical music repertoire. Classes focus on note reading, guitar technique, exposure to classical composers, and playing as an ensemble. A performance from EOC Electric Orchestra, interaction with orchestra members in class, and an opportunity to perform with the group supplement the classes.
